The RRISCC December meeting is scheduled to be held at Mary Starkweather’s house on Monday the 10th at 6:30pm or later. In the not too distant past, we’ve sometimes had holiday get togethers for the December meeting. We’re going to do it again this year. Please feel free to bring family members and other close friends.
For a SPECIAL treat (and to help keep those climbers pulled by family commitments in the last few years still involved in the club,) Santa will be making a special visit in the earlier part of the evening. A friend of Mary’s tried this last year and everyone said this guy was just wonderful!!! The get together will start at 6:30pm to better accommodate our future climbers bedtimes; with Santa arriving at between 6:45 and 7:00, depending on what works best for parents. He’ll only be here about half an hour, so kids should still be able to get home at a decent hour. Then the regular part of the adult meeting/party will resume about 7:30pm. Cookies, veggies, beer and other soft beverages will be provided. If you would like to bring an appetizer or your favorite wine, feel free to do so. Climbing videos will be available if people would like to watch them. Even if you don’t bring kids, feel free to come at 6:30 if you would like, it should be a lot of fun! (Low interest will cancel Santa – we’ll keep you posted.)
FOR ADULTS BRINGING CHILDREN: Santa will arrive, sing a few Christmas carols with everyone, and listen to children’s wish lists, tell stories when needed to keep small children’s attention, sing a little more, and leave quietly while the kids are opening gifts. Santa has a form which you may want to fill out which tells him a bit about your child. He incorporates this by saying, i.e., “So Billy, I know you are looking forward to getting more Rescue Heroes, have you been doing a better job of keeping your room clean?” or other pertinent personal info that should make their jaws drop, and make them feel like Santa really does know them. You may want to bring your video camera! Parents should provide one wrapped gift (@ $5-10 range) for each child for Santa to give them. You can just give it to Mary in a bag, and she will put it out for Santa to empty into his sack before he comes in.
If there is not enough interest, we’ll cancel Santa, so if parents could let Mary know if your kids will be coming by December 5th, that would be good. Call her too, if you have any questions or thoughts, etc. Mary’s number is 473-8229.
Her house is at 340 Oxford St. Here are directions to help you get there:
If coming from the east on I-490, turn right at the Monroe Av. exit, and go toward the city center. If coming from the west on I-490, turn left at the Monroe Av.exit, and proceed toward the city center. A couple of blocks from the exit is Oxford St. Turn right on it and proceed on past Harvard St. Park in the street wherever you can find a spot. If you are coming from the expressway, her house is on the right.
Hope you can make this special and slightly different gathering. See you there.
