Rochester Rock, Ice & Snow Climbing Club

A club for rock, ice and snow climbers in Rochester, New York. Monthly meetings, open to all.

Climbing, in and around Rochester, since 1970

We are a small club of rock, ice and snow climbers in western New York. We meet once a month to watch each other’s slides, plan trips, and lend out a mountaineering library that has been growing for fifty years.

Meetings are open to anyone, and you do not need to be a member or pay anything to come to one. Turn up and sit down.

Nothing. There is no admittance fee and no obligation to join.

Nothing, though people often bring something to share.

Dates move occasionally, so check the meeting page before setting out. The club has met 71 times since 2000; most recently at the October 2025 Meeting.

Everyone is welcome, members or not. Someone usually shows photographs from a trip, and there is always talk of where to go next.

Borrow from the library

1,733 books on mountaineering, exploration and technique, built up by the club over fifty years. Dues-paying members may borrow from it.

Join for $10 a year

Dues are $10 a year, or $5 for students. Members can borrow library material, vote on club business, and get discounts at local outdoor shops.

Who to ask

The club began around 1970 and was incorporated in January 1974 as the ABC Mountaineering Club, Inc. More about how the club started.
