June Meeting
The RRISCC June meeting is scheduled to be held at RIT’s Red Barn on Sunday the 11th at 7:30 pm. Note: Sunday, not Monday, our normal gathering time. Tom Connelly, Coordinator of the Red Barn Activities Program, will host the meeting.
The following information which Tom supplied will help you to prepare for the event:
As you may know, the Red Barn does house an indoor climbing facility.
Normally, this facility is only open to the RIT community ( students,
faculty, staff, and alumni). However, as visiting members ( or
prospectus) of RRISCC, you will have the unique opportunity of playing
at the barn during Sept 12th’s meeting. So, if you wish to climb, bring
your shoes ( or rent a pair of our’s for $2) and a harness and go to town.
Because this is not a personally owned and run facility, there are some
guidelines that I must ask all visitors to adhere to.
• I will need to check all belayers for proficiency before you will be
allowed to belay for others.• It is asked that you only use hardware that is provided by the Red
Barn Activities program ( biners, belay devices, etc).• helmets must be worn while climbing on the upstairs wall.
• please utilize spotters while bouldering.
• if you wish to demonstrate/practice/try out any activity that requires
the use of additional hardware or practices other than basic top roped
climbing, an independent belay, executed according to Red Barn
standards, is required ( e.g.: if you wish to practice or demonstrate rope
ascension, you are welcome to. You must simply be belayed on an
independent line.)
I will provide:
harnesses, helmets, ropes, anchors, all necessary hardware, food, drink
and a smile.
Please understand that if you do not have an affiliation with RIT
mentioned above, outside of this meeting, use of these facilities is not
a possibility.

Directions to the barn:
The main Entrance to RIT is 1/4 mile east of the Genesee
river on Jefferson Rd ( rt 252). turn into the main entrance
and make a right on the main rd that circle around campus
( this road will be obvious). You will see the barn
approaching on the left. Continue past the barn, make the
next left and continue to make lefts until you are at the barn.
(once you see it, you will be able to maintain visual contact
for the most part,- just getting to the parking lot is a little
tricky)
