The RRISCC June meeting is scheduled to be held at Frank Cabron’s place on Monday the 11th at 7:30 pm. Frank will share his slides of a climb of Kilimanjaro, high point of the African continent. He took a non-standard route, coming in from the north and finally linking up with the standard route high on the mountain. Lisa Fuller will also share her climb of Kili via another non-standard route.
“We took 6 days to do the ascent. We took the long, less traveled route. We had no snow fields to cross as our year was pretty dry. No ice axe or crampons were used. We passed through some of the most beautiful and unusual terrain, from serengetti desert to rainforest, to a Dr Suess-like alpine high altitude region. The final push was mostly loose, steep scree, that frankly was very long and very boring, but the glorious sunrise on the morning of the summit was well worth it. I’ll include slides of the animals, cause anyone going over there to do the 19,000+ summit should include time to see the African safari wildlife.”
Frank will include slides of his climb of Popo in Mexico. This climb was done prior to the 1995 volcanic activity on that peak. This will be Kili & Popo night!

From Route 490 East of Rochester, take the Bushnell’s Basin exit. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto the Pittsford-Victor Road (Route 96). After 0.7 miles turn right onto Park Road at the Powdermill Park sign. Drive 0.3 miles and turn left onto a private road at the “Mushroom House” (if you pass the fish hatchery, you’ve gone too far). Take the private road up the hill to the circle. He is down the second drive from the left. Park in his drive, around the circle, or in the fish hatchery parking lot.
Hope you can make this evening of high African & Mexican adventure, while you “armchair” it at the pinnacle of a hill in Powdermill Park.
