We plan to meet at Stu Milligan’s house on October 11th at 7:30 pm. Kevin Flynn will be featured and he will share his recent successful endeavor and summit ascent of the big one, Mt. Everest. Kevin has a goal to summit all of the high points on the seven continents. He has done all of them, except for Vinson Massif in the Antarctic and Carstenz in Irian Jaya of Australasia, currently off limits to climbers. Kevin has the distinction of being the first person actually living in the Rochester area at the time of his Everest climb, when he made it to the top of the world. He left Rochester on March 19th and returned on May 21st. He went with the International Mountain Guides Non-guided Expedition under the direction of Mark Tucker. He and four of his climbing mates, and two Sherpas, reached the summit at 14:30 on Saturday, May 15th. Late, but not terribly so. He has prepared a DVD which we will watch on a large TV monitor. Those who wish to join RRISCC officially by paying the annual dues amount of $10.00 can do so for our new fiscal year September 1, 2004 through August 31, 2005 by sending a check to Henry Hamlin. His address can be found here. The advantages are that dues-paying members are entitled to a 15% discount at area outdoor stores, such as Snow Country, EMS and Get Out and Stay Out. Also, dues-paying members can borrow library materials belonging to the club and/or Stu Milligan as listed here. A membership card will be mailed to you for use at area outdoor stores.

If coming from I-390, get off at the Chili Avenue exit and turn left toward the city. You will go over the canal bridge almost immediately. Go through three lights (hopefully not while they’re red) and go one block short of the fourth light (Gardiner Pk. on the left and Thurston Rd. on the right), then turn right on Salina St. & follow Salina to the end, which literally dumps into my driveway. My house is the yellow and white one. If coming west down Chili Av., turn left one block after the Thurston interchange on Salina St. If coming down Thurston Rd., turn left one big block before the Thurston-Chili interchange onto Devonshire Ct. and go a few houses to where Salina St. comes in from the right – house is on the left side. If coming some other way, you’re on your own. Chili Avenue is under construction and is currently one-way toward the city from the I-390 exit, so if you’re coming the other direction, you will have to use other roads, such as Arnett Park Blvd. or West Avenue.
